Ever since Rafa Benitez took over as Real Madrid boss last summr, there has been endless speculation as to his relationship with star man Cristiano Ronaldo.
Due to the Ballon D’Or holder’s fondness for previous boss Carlo Ancelotti, not to mention Rafa’s preference for a defensive style, a clash was predicted between new coach and star player.
The images of the pair on the training ground have done nothing to end the rumours: Ronaldo has appeared cold and coy to Rafa’s approaches, while Benitez’s reluctance to hail Ronaldo as the best player he’s ever coached was said to have rubbed Ronaldo up the wrong way.
Ronaldo himself has rubbed some Madridistas up the wrong way with his recent PSG flirtations; his casual chatting with Laurent Blanc and PSG President Al-Khelaifi suggested a player plotting an exit.
According to Spanish paper El Confidencial, Ronaldo essentially wrote off Benitez’s credentials in a private conversation with club President Floretino Perez before the international break, telling him:
‘We’ll win nothing with this coach.’
