Shanghai SIPG and captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan is likely to miss Ghana’s second qualifying 2017 Africa Cup of Nations game against Mozambique  scheduled for March 26, at the Accra Sports Stadium due to injury.
The Black Stars picked up a thigh injury in his teams opener of the Asian Champions League against Melbourne Victory in Australia which they lost 2-1.
He lasted an hour in the game and was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Coach Steve Goran- Erikkson after that game had this to say, I don’t know if it’s a bad injury or not. We will find out when we get to China.
Gyan after picking up that injury since February 24, 2016 has not played for Shanghai SPIG and he was left out of the squad last weekend due to match fitness in the game against Korea Republic’s Suwon Bluewings in the second game of the Asian Champions League which they won 2-1.
It is likely Gyan might miss his team’s clash with Gamba Osaka in the third match of the Asian Champions League as he continues to nurse his strained thigh injury.
The Shanghai SPIG player was expected to go for a scan on the injury to ascertain when he will return for the club.
Coach Steve-Goran Erikkson and Avram Grant will be hoping to have their talisman recover early for their crucial encounters both for club and country.
Asamoah Gyan career with Chinese club Shanghai SIPG has been hit with injuries and he has failed to score for the club since August 17th, 2015 against local rivals Shanghai Shenhua.
The last time Gyan failed to play for the Black Stars due to an injury he picked up at club side was in the game against Comoro Island in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in the second preliminary round.
