In an exclusive interview with WBC Hall of fame, Professor Azumah
Nelson has stated that the current crop of boxers lack discipline to
become world class boxers and champions.
He said unlike before the current generation of boxers lack the requisite training and to be world champions.
The former world champion said “discipline is the most important aspect of the sport and most of our current boxers lack it.
They are not able to maintain their titles even up to five years and this worrying.”
He added that boxing is an art and does not depend on energy but the boxers think otherwise and that was why I have availed myself to assist in grooming champions.
He explained that the inability of Ghanaian boxers to grab world titles was due to the poor approach given to the sport by the trainers and he will do his best to change the approach.
Prof Nelson added that the upcoming VIP Boxing Night would also serve as an opportunity to train boxers as well as coaches so they get the required skills to compete for world titles.
He pleaded with government to also help revive the sport and advised upcoming boxers to dedicate more time to training and also be disciplined.
