LIBERTY-PROFESSIONALS
By Herbert Boakye-Yiadom
Ghana Premier League side Liberty Professionals have started another youth development programme which will run for the next 10 years.
Head coach of the youth side, Reginald Asante told The Finder that the programme, since its inception, has brought out players like Asamoah Gyan, Kennedy Ashia, Alexander Nii Aryee and Kwame Boahene.
He explained that the boys are picked from youth tournaments played in Dansoman and other communities whilst some are also brought in by their managers.
He said the boys are prepared for the Liberty first team whilst others are also sent to Europe.
He stressed on the need for the Ghana Football Association to structure a league for the youth side and also invest in the national U-20 side because they will be producing most of the players for the senior team.
Communication Director for the club, Dr Godfred Akoto also said: “It has taken two-and-half months of intensive searching and these players will be ready to play professionally. We are going to train them so they become available to the team and other clubs who want their services”.
Member of the playing body, Kennedy Agya-Kofi also expressed his ambition to be a top-notch player, and was, thus, happy to be part of the programme since Liberty will enable him to reach his potential.
