The Premier League Board (PLB) is considering the introduction of Monday night football in the ongoing 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Communication Director of the PLB, Tamimu Issah told Finder Sports that the move was part of the innovations coming into the league as a result of the television rights from Super Sports so that most of the league games are telecasted live.
In the past league matches were played on Sundays but the PLB has over the years been able to introduce Friday and Saturday football matches which was currently in place in the ongoing 2015/16 league season as a result of the television rights from SuperSports, he said.
“This decision has been taken by the PLB so that most of the matches can be aired and the idea of introducing what has been labeled as Super Monday by the stakeholders has been up and we were waiting for an opportunity to start this up, “Issah noted.
He added “since May 2 is a holiday we decided to reschedule the Hearts –Kotoko game for that day to kick start the initiative and its possible the game will be played under floodlights.
The PLB communication director said he has been impressed by the standard of play exhibited by the clubs in the ongoing league season and stated that the Premier League Board was also working assiduously to ensure a very successful and competitive season.
